​Tyler Gregory Okonma, professionally known as Tyler, The Creator, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and fashion designer. Born on March 6, 1991, in Hawthorne, California, he has emerged as a significant figure in alternative hip-hop and pop culture since the late 2000s. Tyler is renowned for his innovative music, distinctive fashion sense, and entrepreneurial ventures. 

Early Life and Background

Raised in the Ladera Heights and Hawthorne neighborhoods of Los Angeles, Tyler was brought up by his mother, as he never met his Nigerian father of Igbo descent. From a young age, he exhibited a passion for music and creativity—designing imaginary album covers at seven and teaching himself piano by fourteen. Throughout his schooling, he attended twelve different institutions across Los Angeles and Sacramento, reflecting a dynamic and exploratory upbringing. 

Musical Career and Achievements

Tyler co-founded the alternative hip-hop collective Odd Future in 2007, gaining attention for their unique style and DIY ethos. His solo career began with the mixtape Bastard (2009), followed by Goblin (2011), which featured the breakout single "Yonkers." Over the years, Tyler's discography has evolved, showcasing his versatility and growth as an artist.​

Tyler's creativity extends to television and film. He co-created and starred in the Adult Swim sketch comedy show Loiter Squad (2012–2014) and the animated series The Jellies! (2017–2019). In 2024, he was cast in his first feature film role in Josh Safdie's Marty Supreme, alongside Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow. ​
